The Master Behind All Of This Horror, Madness, Crazyness, Gore, Terror,
and above all........ FUN, is the none other than the Master of Horror,
The King of Screams, The Lord of Terror, and The Fright Man Himself.........

I feel honored to be writing a documentary so to speak about a man that has taught me about horror and what Halloween Fun is all about!
As I write this, lightning strikes outside and rain begins to fall.  I can hear dogs howling and children crying.
Now I know what you're thinking... "Oh wow, such a dramatic entrance!!" Well No thats not a dramatic entrance.  
Thats the result when a thunder and lightning storm is outside (If you want proof check the weather reports for July 9th in Eastern Long Island)!!

Rich Is a man that has a vision of what he wants and how he wants it done! Once the walls are in place and the maze is built, he'll add the blood and gore to bring in the fright.  After the fright comes the horror and once thats all in place, comes people like myself that choose to work for him and scare the daylights out of visitors like yourself!  
Rich has been featured in many articles online and off.  He has been apart of Hauntworld, took part of Transworld in 2002, featured in Underground Entertainment, published a book titled, "The Haunted House Employee Handbook", and of course has helped create some of the most awesome haunted houses all over the place! However, through all of this.............  who is Rich Hanf........  Master of Horror??  Lets find out.

                 From as young as the age of 3, okay maybe 4, Rich has told many interviewers from Underground Entertainment that he has always had "strange feelings about Halloween". Rich remembers the joys of setting a table for childhood Halloween parties and tells his fans that the logo of the witch flying across the moon came from his imagination.  An imagination that had him looking up at the full moon of All Halows Eve waiting for a witch to fly across cackling in the eerie night.  A logo like this:  It was an image like this that haunted the mind and ensnared the imagination of a young child.................

And transformed it into the man we all know as the Master of Horror!

                 Rich started out pretty simply with Halloween scares by doing front yard displays at his home every year.  However, what started out as a display, turned into shows.  These productions spoke volumes and respresented the joy of Halloween that was inside the maturing teen as he became a man of menace and insanity.   The displays showed more than joy and pride, but spoke about who Rich really was and what he was about, and like many others out there like him who were "Home Haunters", he enjoyed what he was doing.Through the years of the late 70's and 80's, Rich tells his interviewers that he had alot of "Halloween Magic" happening and was in the "Halloween Zone" at that time.  Thinking of nothing but Halloween, he was shopping in June and planning 24/7 about what his display would look like.  Throughout all of his shopping Rich has come to a major conclusion about what Halloween has done for him.  Rich has stated that "Halloween gave me a career, a wife, and the woman who would eventually be my next wife all in one shot."

The short explanation: Shopping at a popular store know as "Ken’s Magic & Costume" (Cheap Plug but its still there in Fairlawn, New Jersey for the past 24 years folks), he proceeded to gather his materials and shop for his haunts.  It was here where he picked up another "accessory" that soon became an integral part of his life.   He met and eventually picked up Kens' daughter and married her. In the process he got a chance to meet HAUNTED MANSIONS', Kevin McCurdy at the same store.  As his wife struck a conversation with this famous haunter, she and Rich created a lifelong friendship that has lasted to this day. Rich made arrangements to see HAUNTED MANSIONS and later that year was picked up in a limo.  Inside of the limo with him turned out to be noneother than Roxanne, the woman who would eventually be his wife for the next 5 years.    (End of Explanation)  Rich responds to this stating: "That’s what I mean...any time I did something for Halloween, I got a life changing bonus thrown in as well. Those were exciting days."

The Masters Maniacal Mistress

Those of us who have worked with Rich and his mischievous mistress Roxanne, also known as Roxy, have described her as an Angel from heaven with a tainted halo hiding the small horns in the back of her head.  With enough raw energy to power 20 football teams, this firecracker can explode enough Halloween horror on you to have your grandchildren trembling as they grow up.  Roxy is a sweet woman who looks after her "children", as she calls us, and makes sure we are at our scariest.  In the event one of us falters in our wails or screams, she'll send Rich after us and thats when, literally, all he!! breaks loose! Here are some pictures of Roxy and Rich that you may not normally see!  After you look at these, continue down to hear the last part of Richs' beginnings.

                 Well, I've given you guys the very, very basic foundation of what got our Master of Horror started.  Without turning this into a long story, I can tell you this.  Rich started working on yard haunts from his own home, but after a visit to FANGORIA Horror Conventions, a visit to the very first SPOOKYWORLD , helped create the NIGHTMARE HAYRIDE which was then called HAUNTED HAYRIDE and the NIGHTMARE HAYRIDE again (looooooong story), started working with the HAUNTED CASTLE (which he still does..... I think), then did some work with FRIGHTLAND, then more work with SPOOKYWORLD and between most of this worked lots of conventions, then............  he.....  oh geez..........  there is so much that this master has done for the world of horror that if you haven't clicked a link or gone searching for Rich on the net.........  then one of our ghouls must have eaten your brain by now  hehehehehehehehehe......
